American Friends of UNRWA has just launched a website in support of UNRWA’s Adopt a School Program in Gaza, www.afu-adoptaschool.org, and we need your help to spread the word!

The new website shares personal stories of Gazan students, while keeping you informed of the latest news about conditions and education in Gaza.  It also gives you the opportunity to make your own impact in improving the quality of education in Gaza:

EDUCATE: The Adopt a School website encourages you to educate others about the increasingly difficult conditions in Gaza and the critical need for support of UNRWA educational programs.  It also introduces you to Gazan students making a difference, like Amal, who excelled in her UNRWA-sponsored human rights course and subsequently created her own youth volunteer network!

FUNDRAISE: It provides innovative ideas for holding fundraisers in support of the program and highlights past fundraisers, like that of Oscar Chim and his CIS UNRWA Club, who held a very successful Palestinian Cultural Day at their school!

DONATE: It shows how your donations can make a big difference in the life of a child:

• $19.00 will provide a student with a book bag for the year.
• $45.00 will provide a student with a school uniform.
• $121.00 will provide one student with nourishing meals for the entire school year.
  
• $300.00 will provide hygiene kits for 30 students.
• $1,000.00 will provide a set of library textbooks.

For only $195.00 you can sponsor a child with all the school essentials including a book bag, uniform, hygiene kit, and meals for an entire year.

SUPPORT: It provides other ways to support the Adopt a School Program, including purchasing one of Kinda Hibrawi’s beautiful Arabic Calligraphy T-shirts, with a portion of the proceeds going to the program.

The first school to be adopted and featured on the website is Beach Elementary Co-ed School, near Gaza City, which serves 1262 students in extremely difficult and overcrowded conditions.  Through the website, we hope to raise a total of $1.2 million for Beach School, and we need your help to accomplish this goal!
