John Hagee and God

No offense to the believers, but according to Reverend John Hagee, the leader of the one million strong “Christians United for Israel” God/G-d to amend for HIS/HER mistake decided to come down in Jerusalem and anoints Bibi Netanyahu as King of the Jews, just like King David even Moses.

I was not surprised that John Hagee came close to comparing Bibi Netanyahu to the coming “Messiah”, However John Hagee stopped short of comparing Bibi to Adam and Noah. Forget about Mohamed or Jesus, they don’t count in the book of John Hagee.

After his speech to John Hagee and his group, I am sure Bibi laughed all the way home at these stupid American Christian fools and their leader John Hagee and laughed all the way to the bank since John Hagee fleeces millions of dollars annually from his poor flock in San Anton, only to give to Israel leaving San Antonio to bite the dust. Israel; Blackmailing America to War.

Forget the annual $ 4 billions congressional give away to Israel to kill, to destroy, to steal to rob to kidnap. Our citizens simply should consider these numbers. 50-cents increase per gallon X 180,000,000 million cars and trucks with an average of 70 gallons per month per car/truck and “voila” $6.3 Billions extra each month. Israel’s war game is on now for more than 5 months. Time to tell Bibi and his cronies in Washington to go to hell.

With money like this, every American driver and every American citizen should think twice about Israel and the price we have to pay every day, every month and every year and wonder why do we keep electing Israel’s Firsters to the White House and to Congress? Bibi Netanyahu did not come to Washington with a carrot and a stick; he came to Washington with a whip and a stick. And all American politicians and leadership fell in line. Continue reading

Barack Obama as Uncle Shlomo

Sami Jamil Jadallah

Sami Jamil Jadallah

Poor President Barack Obama, ops, Uncle Shlomo, it seems the litmus tests of his loyalty to Israel and Israel First is a war on Iran. No matter what he does for Israel and Israel’s supporters within the American Jewish and Evangelical Christian communities, it is never enough.  For Israel Firsters, it will not be enough until he goes to war with Iran despite the great risk such a war would bring to the US, not to mention the sure destruction of the entire Gulf region. For Israel Firsters, nothing short of more American blood spilled and trillions more wasted on Israel’s continuous wars in the Middle East will do.

During last presidential campaign, many Israelis and leading American Zionist Jews and opinion makersaccused Barack Obama of being a “closet Muslim” because they did not believe he was pro-Israel—these accusations were made despite the fact that the key financial sponsors of Obama’s rise to the presidency are from the American Jewish community.

Israel and milking America

Sami Jamil Jadallah

Sami Jamil Jadallah, 9 March 2011

Ehud Barak, the Israeli defense minister in Bibi Netanyahu’s government announced to the Wall Street Journal that Israel would seek $20 Billions in upgrades for its already existing $3.2 Billion annual defense grants. It seems the Arab winds of freedom and democracy is another chance for Israel to milk the US cow for more money. That should not be a big problem since the US Congress with its Republican leadership and with some one like Eric Cantor representing Tel-Aviv and not Richmond, VA in the American Knesset West will surely help in this regard. If the toppling of dictatorships in Tunisia and Egypt is worth $20 Billion for Israel, one has to wonder what the price the US has to pay Israel for a regime change in Libya, Yemen, or Syria?

Over the years, and since the US began to sponsor Israel, its wars, its occupation, its economic development, its settlements, its immigration policy, its ethnic cleansings, its house demolition, its targeted killings, its land and water theft, the US has contributed some $120 Billion so far and counting. The total costs to the US for its support of Israel and if we are to include the War on Iraq, sponsored by the Israeli lobby and the costs in terms of boycotts and oil prices, the costs jump to over $3 Trillion, the same amount of the US deficits.

With the US in deep financial trouble with both the president and Congress pledging substantial budget reduction specially in domestic programs, and with a promise from Obama in his State of the Union message to carefully look at every line item in the budget and “eliminate programs we can’t afford and don’t work” one has to wonder how Obama will review the new Israeli demand and how he will weigh his chance of re-election if he refuses to do so?

One need to keep in mind, that Obama who was willing to cut down on so many domestic programs willingly pledged $30 Billions over 10 years and was willing to give Israel twenty F-35 if Israel agrees to freeze its settlement program for 3 months. The Economist in its 16 November 2010 made such a joke of the offer that it titled it essay “ Twenty F-35 not to build trailer park”.

In a 26 February, 2010 Huffington Post article titled “ Why the US can’t afford military aid to Israel” Josh Ruebner gives some very intersecting figures what the American people can do with the $30 Billion Obama pledged to Israel. Josh mentions 364,000 affordable vouchers for low income household families, 887,000 early reading programs for high risk kids, and 498,000 green jobs, a major achievements for any US president, but then the beneficiaries are not US citizens and voters they are Israeli citizens and voters, something the Obama White House is keeping an eye on in the next election.

World wide Israel is able to raise more than $ I Billion a year from world Jewry according to reports of the IMF, this is in addition to what Israel gets from the US every year. American Jewish community is considered by all as the largest single contributor to Israel especially when it comes to its settlement policies and when it comes to sponsoring the armed Jewish thugs and trespassers who are almost totally dependent on US Jews for their daily livings.

While the US Justice Department, Home Land Security, Treasury Department, IRS have special offices and teams numbering in the thousands tracking donations and money raised by Arab and Muslim Americans for charities, and the same is true of American Jewish leadership and special American Jewish organizations dedicated to tracking and every single dollar raised by Arab and Muslim Americans in the US, there is total disregards for the hundreds of millions of tax exempted dollars that are going to armed Jewish terrorists groups running wild and lose in the Occupied West Bank terrorizing Palestinian families, destroying their homes and farms, poisoning their water wells and killing their live stocks and burning their schools and mosques.

According to David Ignatius of the Washington Post there are 28 major American Jewish organizations that are active in supporting and sponsoring “Jewish settlements” in the Occupied West Bank. Not only the American taxpayers are milked but also the very poorest of Americans are taken to the cleaners by American Jewish tycoon operating BINGO games in California. Irving Moskowitz who is the largest operator of BINGO in California is the largest financial contributor to Jewish settlements specially those in East Jerusalem. He is not alone; Ira Rennet of the Rencco Group is also one of the largest donors and contributor to Jewish settlements. I guess when it comes to Israel there is nothing wrong with milking the US Treasury and milking the poorest of poor in America. As always, I am sure both Obama and congressional leadership will welcome such an additional request from Israel and find a way to milk American tax payers one more time.

The unraveling of the police state

Sami Jamil Jadallah

Sami Jamil Jadallah, 8 March 2011

For the past few days, I have been watching live news reports of the unraveling and dismantling of Hosni Mubarak police state, with officers and commanders of the “state security service” or “amn aldwla” on the run after succeeding in shredding hundreds of millions of very important files implicating the Mubarak regime in torture, cold blooded murder, invasion of privacy and abuse of citizens rights with the entire force of 1.4 million strong serving Mubarak, his cronies, business associates and his political allies. When it became clear General Ahmed Shafiq was on his way out, deliberate fires were set to offices of state security services all over the country. Citizens came to the rescue but it was too late in many instances.

Mahmoud Abbas, Chairman of the PLO and President of the Palestinian Authority (his term expired more than 2 years ago) forged a close partnership with both Mubarak and General Omar Suleiman making the PA an extension of Mubarak Egypt specially when it came to Hamas, the continued siege of Gaza and reliance on security services as the backbone of the regime with Ramallah becoming not so different from Cairo’s Mubarak.

Notwithstanding what we hear about ‘state buildings” and “institutional building” the future Palestinian state if and when it comes will be nothing but a police state. This was the theme of an article I posted on November 29, 2007 “ The future Palestinian state will be nothing but a police state”, the same theme was also the subject of an article written by Aisling Byrne dated 18 January 2011 titled “ building a police state in Palestine” that appeared in Foreign Policy

The late Yasser Arafat was so committed to the security of Israel and committed to Oslo that he made “security services” his top priority anywhere he went.  On his first visit to the UK rather than seeking substantial compensation for Palestinians for crimes committed by England under its mandate and its Balfour Declaration, he could not find anything to seek support for except his security forces.

Egypt too played a major role in training the PA security forces and no doubt many of the Palestinian officers were trained at the hands of the Egyptian State Security Services learning all kinds of torture methods and violations of people’s right. The Guardian of 17 December 2009 reported the CIA playing a key role in training the same security forces overlooking the much reported torture and murder taking place in the dungeons of the Palestinian security forces. Human Rights Watch in its report dated 20 October 2010 states ” the reports of torture by Palestinian Security Services keeps rolling in”, with Sa’id Abu-Ali, the PA’s interior minister acknowledged both torture and even murder but denies it is official policy.  Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, el-Haq and B’Tselem all reported torture taking place within special prisons of the Palestinian Security Forces. There are reports of some 400-500 detained prisoners without charges and without trials.

As reported in the Palestine Papers, Tony Blair, the Quartette Special Envoy and a close ally and friend of Bibi Netanyahu and Israel took advantage of his position shifting the US/EU funding from economic, state and institutional building to counter-insurgency (COIN) “ with objective of degrading the capabilities of the rejectionists Hamas, Islamic Jihad, Al-Aqsa Brigade through the disruption of their leadership communication and command and control capabilities “ with 25% of the foreign funding going to the Palestinian Security Forces.

The many competing Palestinian security forces became the joke of Palestinians and the world and control of these many competing security forces became the issue of contentions between the US and the Palestinian Authority (PASSIA report dated 9 August 2004 and MIFTAH report dated 30 May 2006) when it became clear that Arafat may be losing control and is unable to deliver on promise and commitment to Israel’s security and security collaboration and cooperation with Israel. Mahmoud Abbas was pushed to take over as prime minister. Mahmoud Abbas continued to keep his commitments to Israel as Chairman of the PLO and president of the PA.

No way to underestimate the key role Palestinian Security Forces plays in keeping the Jewish Occupation and this is the main reasons that the US, EU and Mubarak Egypt were so keen in making sure the security forces fulfill the PLO’s commitment to the security of Israel, its army and its armed settlers under Oslo. That is why General Dayton was assigned to the job and that is why the security services remains the top priority of the US, Israel and the Palestinian leadership receiving more funding than education, health, transportation, social services combined.

Perhaps it will do well for Mahmoud Abbas, Salam Fayyad and Ismail Haniyeh to know that a regime built on and around “security services” will be temporary and will sooner than later, cause the collapse not only of the regime but may take the leadership to trial as criminals. It will do well for the Ramallah and Gaza leadership to learn the lessons of Tunisia and Egypt.

Ramallah and bribing Israel. Time to fire Saeb Erekat.

Sami Jadallah

Sami Jamil Jadallah, 20 Nov 2010

Thanks to Mahmoud Abbas and his brilliant negotiating team, they helped Israel turn around the issue of settlements from a source of punishment to a source of rewards. Not so sure if President Mahmoud Abbas whose term expired some times ago, will ever realize that his way and the negotiating team he is relying on will bring nothing but one disaster after another.

It seems that he and his team has not and will not learn from years of consistent failures in managing the negotiations with Israel and irreparable harms he and his team are causing the people inside under the occupation and in the Diaspora.

I am sure Mahmoud Abbas and Saeb Erekat as his chief negotiator does not realize what they are doing and how their reckless incompetent mismanagement of the negotiations is becoming a windfall for Israel and Bin Netanyahu.

For the two month freeze Abbas and his team insisted on as a condition of direct negotiations the US as a bribe, paid Israel one billion for each month of the temporary freeze and once the temporary freeze was over the Israeli government and the Jewish Settlers/Squatters more than double the construction making up for time loss. Perhaps Mahmoud Abbas and his chief negotiator can tell us what they have achieved during these two months when they sat face to face with Israel? We know what Israel got and what the government did, not sure if Mahmoud Abbas and his team can tell us anything, because they got nothing, absolutely nothing in return.

Bibi Netanyahu the smart and conniving man he is knew President Obama does not have the courage or the will to stand up to Israel and is venerable before and after mid-term elections and he knew he can successfully milk the US out of tens of billions in aids and other guarantees for additional periods of “temporary freeze”. Mahmoud Abbas and his brilliant team are solely responsible for making it possible for the US to bribe Israel and handing over aid packages to Israel on golden platter.

Abbas and his team has been negotiating with successive Israeli governments for years, while Israel continued with its settlements policies expanding settlements, continuing with building the Apartheid Wall, continued with systematic expulsions of Palestinians from East Jerusalem and continued with its policies of house demolitions and allowing and providing covers for marauding Jewish Settlers/Squatters to rein terror against unarmed and unprotected Palestinians farmers and villagers. Again, perhaps Mahmoud Abbas and his brilliant chief negotiator can tell us what they achieved all these years, other than continued cooperation between the Israel’s High Commissioner for Judea and Samaria and the Palestinian Security Forces.

It is clear, so far Mahmoud Abbas and his negotiating team did not finish what Arafat set out to do in Oslo, not liberation and ending the Jewish Occupation but the continued management of the Jewish Occupation as one sure way to keep the PLO/Fatah in business. As long as there is a Jewish Occupation, the PLO/Fatah will remain in business. What is surprising is the intensity of and loyal support Ramallah gives to Tel-Aviv in its efforts to blackmail the US. Perhaps Ramallah will be seeking better terms for its management deal with Israel, perhaps its is seeking more and more funding for its Security Forces to be more effective in providing higher level of cooperation with Israel and more intensive security for Israel’s armed forces and its criminal settlers.

So far the US is offering Israel some $20 Billions in bribes and is offering Israel security guarantees and written commitments to offer is ready veto against any efforts to bring the issue of the Jewish Occupation, East Jerusalem, the Apartheid Wall, the Jewish Settlements, and the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians from East Jerusalem, not to mention the continued house demolitions before the UN Security Council. All of this is in exchange for 90 days temporary freeze. Again, perhaps Mahmoud Abbas and his brilliant negotiating team can tell us what they will get in return for agreeing to go back to direct negations? If the past is an indications of the future, they will get nothing for the people, perhaps they will succeed in getting some additional VIP passes and allowing senior PLO official to use their private cars as they cross to Jordan.

We can understand the reasons for Arafat not seeking any legal and professional help in negotiating Oslo, but we could not understand why Mahmoud Abbas continue to rely on the same failed team and will not go out of the circle of the incompetent team within the PLO and seek the help of professional from among the Diaspora Palestinians, even seeking the help from international legal and professional experts. Time to fire Saeb Erekat and the entire PLO/Fatah team.

Ramallah, the best friend Israel can have!

Sami Jadallah

Sami Jamil Jadallah, 4 Oct 2010

Any one familiar with the “special” if not strange relationship between the US and Israel would be shocked with this title, but it is true.  Israel and its Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu and his foreign minister Avigdor Lieberman could not have better friends these days than Mahmud Abbas, Saeb Erekat, Yasser Abed Rabbo, Nabil Abu -Rudeina and the Palestinian negotiating team. Forget about Washington, it is Ramallah that counts these days and for good reasons.

Recently Mahmoud Abbas and his negotiating team made the issue of “settlements” and Israeli Squatters a big issue, a make or break issue for starting and continued direct negotiations when in fact the Ramallah leadership negotiated with Ehud Olmert for years when he was doing the same thing Bibi Netanyahu is doing now, building and expanding settlements.

The continued construction and expansions of settlements did not stop the on going negotiations involving Ehud Olmert, Ehud Barak, Tzipi Livni, Mahmoud Abbas, Saeb Erekat, Yasser Abed Rabbo, Ahmed Qurai and Nabil Abu-Rudeina.  In fact, even the Israel vicious criminal war on Gaza and the destruction of some 35,000 homes, schools and hospitals and the cold-blooded murder of 1,500 did not stop Mahmoud Abbas and his negotiating team from continued negotiations with the Israeli criminal team.

President Barack Obama desperate to have a break through and at the suggestions of his American Jewish Middle East policy team is doing all he can to keep the direct negotiations going and is putting himself and America at the mercy of a blackmailing Bibi Netanyahu who knows well how to squeeze and fleece the US out of money, weapons, political and legal leverage. Thanks to Mahmoud Abbas and his negotiation team Bibi Netanyahu is getting what he wants for simply agreeing to extend for two months the “freeze” which in actuality and reality was never a true freeze but a slow down. Knowing Bibi he will redouble the efforts to make up for lost time and the process of blackmailing America will start all over again.

In exchange for this two months freeze, Israel is getting a couple of billions of military aid package and other security guarantees. It is getting the US support for Israel to place permanently its troops on the border with Jordan and in the Jordan Valley, it is getting the US guarantees for the use its “Veto” power to make sure the Palestinians will not go the UN or the Security Council and seek redress or bring the issue of settlements, declaration of a state, issue of borders, refugees, Jerusalem or any of the major issues that Mahmoud Abbas and his negotiating team declare so often as the “Final Status Issues”.

We know Israel is getting all of this from the US for simply agreeing to a two months freeze. The question that must be raised what Mahmoud Abbas and the Palestinians are getting in return? Nothing absolutely nothing, other than having the honor and privilege to meeting face to face with Bibi Netanyahu.

Mahmoud Abbas is not getting one single security checkpoints removed, is not getting one single kidnapped and imprisoned Palestinian released and out of jail, is not getting any guarantees to get Israel to stop house demolition even one single house or the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians from East Jerusalem, not getting any guarantees that the Palestinians of Sheik Jarrah will not be evicted and exiled from their homes

I am sure the Palestinians people would like to hear from Mahmoud Abbas and his top and lead negotiator Saeb Erekat what the Palestinians are getting in return for going back to the table.  If the answer is a promise from the US for a two state solutions we heard that before. If there is a promise to end the Occupation, we know the US is not in a position to stop Israel from building houses, how can the US have the power of the authority to get mighty Israel to abandon the West Bank, promises the US is incapable of keeping and could never keep. Even if Barack Obama gives such a promise be sure the US Congress will make sure that such a promise from the US is not worth the paper it is written on.

So hear we are, After 18 years of “life is a negotiation” we find that Mahmoud Abbas and his team is doing for Israel and Bibi Netanyahu what the US could not on its own do. For making the issue of settlements and its freeze as a precondition for continued direct negotiations Mr. Abbas and Dr. Saeb unknowingly for sure are handing Bib Netanyhu a windfall, a bonanza and the chance to squeeze the U, Europe and the Arabs and gets what he wants. I wonder what will Bibi Netanyahu ask from and will get from the US for another 3 or 4 months extensions. Perhaps a demand from all the Arab countries to open embassies not in Tel-Aviv but in Jerusalem. Thanks to Ramallah all this is made possible, but only for a “freeze”.  I wonder what Ramallah will get for Bibi and Israel for removal of one ‘caravan”.

Bibi made the case for Israel; Abbas failed to make the case for Palestine.

Sami Jadallah

Sami Jamil Jadallah, 2 Sept 2010

For years marauding criminal and armed Jewish settlers have been terrorizing Palestinians villagers in and around Hebron, Jenin, Nablus, Ramallah, Tulkarem, Qalqillia among other places. These criminal gangs have engaged in cold blooded murder on almost daily basis, attacking and burning olive orchards, killing life stock and poisoning wells, yet not the Israeli leadership, certainly not the Palestinian leadership ever spoke up against this daily well organized and Israeli army protected campaign of terror.

Bibi Netanyahu, the Israeli prime minister spoke very well for Israel, the ancestral and homeland of the “Jewish People”, demanding a secure and safe Israel, promoting the case for Israel throughout his life and speech, promoting and advocating Israeli settlements, promoting, advocating and sponsoring marauding Jewish thugs roaming the hills and narrow allies of Palestinians villages, promoting land theft and fraudulent land transaction that facilitate the transfer of Palestinian properties to Jewish owners. Netanyahu seized the moment in the White House at the opening ceremonies of the Direct Negotiations.  Mahmoud Abbas certainly missed the moment to make his case for Palestine let alone the people of Palestine.

Mahmoud Abbas as was expected not only extended his condolences to Bibi Netanyahu for the murder of these 4 Israeli criminal settlers, he condemned the murder as well. Mahmoud Abbas unlike Netanyahu failed to mention the Palestinian rights to their ancestral home land, failed to mention over 63 years of forced exile, failed to mention 43 years of military and settler’s occupation one of the longest and most cruel in modern times, failed to mention the ethnic cleansing of 83,000 Palestinian Arabs from their homes in East Jerusalem, failed to mention the systematic and ever present house demolitions of Palestinian homes and the consistent denial of building permits for Palestinians, the destruction of farms, the confiscation of water resources, the Apartheid Wall and all the land, the farms and homes it destroyed and denied, the Jewish Only Roads that robbed the Palestinians of more additional lands to provide safe and speedy access to Israeli settlers and land thieves.

Bibi Netanyahu spoke much of the “Palestinian terror” that Israelis faced and are facing, while Mahmoud Abbas never once did he speak of the daily Jewish terror the Palestinian people have to face at more than 600 security checkpoints, have to face by the hundreds of Jewish settlements that dot the Palestinian country side, the daily targeted killings and kidnapping of Palestinians by settlers and the Israeli army.  While Netanyahu made his case for a “secure” Israel, Mahmoud Abbas simply was lost unable to focus on the real issues, the rights of his people in their land. Abbas simply overlooked the daily Jewish terror his people have to face every day for 43 years.  It seems the security and safety of his people was not an issue.

While Bibi Netanyahu spoke of Israel, of course Israel of “Judea and Samaria” as the “Jewish Home Land”, Mahmoud Abbas only satisfied himself of speaking of “freeze” on settlement building giving his approval for ALL existing Jewish settlements small and large built in the Occupied territories since 67.  Mahmoud Abbas like Arafat before him never spoke of the Palestinians historic rights in Palestine, rending the issue of one of “refugees” but not of national right of return similar to that advocated and demanded by Netanyahu for his “people”.

Both Bibi Netanyahu and Mahmoud Abbas skipped over the issue of the Occupation that took place in 67 as if this occupation does not exist.  Too bad Mahmoud Abbas did not seize the moment, a historic moment to make the case for a free and sovereign state of Palestine in all of the territories occupied in 67 with East Jerusalem as its capital. He only spoke of easing the restriction, freezing the settlements and otherwise spoke as a manager of the Jewish Occupation asking for easier condition under the Jewish Occupation but not the freedom from the Jewish Occupation.  Abbas statement spoke of extending the terms of contract negotiated in Oslo and signed in Washington. He simply handed Area C to Bibi Netanyahu on a golden plate, thus fulfilling the role and the game that started in Oslo.

I could never understand the silent of the Abbas and Salam Fayyad when Jewish settlers murder a Palestinian or when the Israeli army target killing a Palestinian, yet and within minutes both men condemn the murder of armed Jewish settlers who are nothing more than criminal trespassers. With hundreds of millions spent on the Palestinian Security Forces by Israel, the US and the EC, it seems the Palestinian Security Forces the Blackwater of the Israeli Occupation failed in its mission and failed to do the job assigned which is the protection of Israeli armed settlers and the safety and security of the Israeli army as they come to town to kill, murder, kidnap and destroy.

Ahmedinejad and Netanyahu as guests of the White House!

Sami Jadallah

Sami Jamil Jadallah, 6 August 2010

It may do some if not a lot of good if President Obama invites both President Ahmedinejad of Iran and Bibi Netanyahu of Israel to the White House to watch jointly the horrors of nuclear weapons. Perhaps it will do the world lots of goods if the president of France, the prime minister of England, the president of Russia, the prime minister of India, the president of Pakistan and the president of China all join in with Netanyahu and Ahmedinejad and watch a documentary on the horror and the devastation that struck the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki as the US dropped the first ever nuclear bombs.  May be, just may be there will be a call to end all nuclear weapons. One can only imagine the horrific feeling of the people of Hiroshima and Nagasaki as the United States dropped the “ Little Boy” over Hiroshima and the “Fat Man” over Nagasaki.  The US decision to attend the memorial ceremony is a first step toward a long process of healing. Who knows perhaps President Obama will also make a visit to both Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

On August 6 and August 9 respectably, the United States dropped the first ever-nuclear bomb over civilian targets killing some 80,000 instantly in Hiroshima and some 50,000 in Nagasaki. The human death toll within the first 2-4 months where 90,000-166,000 in Hiroshima and 60,000-80,000 in Nagasaki.

Of course there are many who justify the use of nuclear weapons and attribute this to the speedy capitulation and surrender of Japan bringing an end to the war in the Pacific and Far East. There are those, and I am one of them, who could never justify the use of nuclear bombs under any circumstances and who for that matter think the nuclear bombs are a waste of time and money and could never be used or come to aid a country in collapse of disintegration just like the case with the former Soviet Union where tens of thousands of nuclear weapons did not prevent the collapse and disintegration of the Soviet Union.

I dare to say the same, that Israel with its some 160 nuclear bombs nuclear could never save Israel from coming to tragic end, and that the best security for Israel in the short and long run is peace and reconciliations with the Palestinians and with the much larger Arab and Muslim world. Any one who thinks there is safety in nuclear bombs should think twice. If the US and the Soviet Union dare use the nuclear weapons during the Cold War, that would have been the end of both the US and the Soviet Union.

For Iran, while I do believe that Iran like the rest of the world has the absolute and undeniable rights to develop and use nuclear technology for peaceful purposes I think the atomic bomb will not save the Islamic Republic from collapse and failure and will never provide an absolute tight fit security for the country or the regime, that the only way for Iran to survive as an “Islamic Republic” is to forge ahead and move from a country ruled by “ mullahs” to country where citizens are the ultimate protectors of the state, not an Ayatollahs.

May be the meeting at the White House with Netanyahu and Ahmedinejad may change the minds of both men, and may just may bring this world step closer to safety and prosperity.

PS. One only need to see Nagasaki and Hiroshima now, two cities destroyed by war and nuclear bombs and how they became prosperous exciting cities and see Detroit that was the place to manufacture war machines and how it in turn became a city ravaged by war, neglect, inept politics, racism, run away capitalism. One has to wonder how the Japanese were able to rebuild what war destroyed and we destroy what war built.

Bibi the Bamboozler to Settlers: ‘America Won’t Get in Our Way…It’s Easily Moved’

Richard Silverstein, 17 July 2010

Israel’s Channel 10 secured a video (Hebrew) recorded in 2001 during the height of a Palestinian terror campaign against Israel and the settlements.  It records a condolence call Bibi Netanyahu, recently “retired” from politics after losing the prime ministership several years earlier, pays on a group of West Bank widows whose husbands had been killed by Palestinian attacks.

For those on the Israeli right who claim that the Oslo Accords broke down due to Palestinian terror or any such thing, watch this and you will see that Bibi brags that he destroyed Oslo.  Even if you discount this by half as the braggadocio of a macho Israeli politician, it’s still eye-opening.  Gideon Levy too has written about this footage in Haaretz.

Note in the first passage how Bibi brags that he has America wrapped around his thumb.  The cynicism is breathtaking.  Here is Dena Shunra’s translation:

Bibi:…The Arabs are currently focusing on a war of terror and they think it will break us. The main thing, first of all, is to hit them. Not just one blow, but blows that are so painful that the price will be too heavy to be borne. The price is not too heavy to be borne, now. A broad attack on the Palestinian Authority. To bring them to the point of being afraid that everything is collapsing…

Woman: Wait a moment, but then the world will say “how come you’re conquering again?”

Netanyahu: the world won’t say a thing. The world will say we’re defending.

Woman: Aren’t you afraid of the world, Bibi?

Netanyahu: Especially today, with America. I know what America is. America is something that can easily be moved. Moved to the right direction.

Child: They say they’re for us, but, it’s like…

Netanyahu: They won’t get in our way. They won’t get in our way.

Child: On the other hand, if we do some something, then they…

Netanyahu: So let’s say they say something. So they said it! They said it! 80% of the Americans support us. It’s absurd. We have that kind of support and we say “what will we do with the…”  Look. That administration [Clinton] was extremely pro-Palestinian. I wasn’t afraid to maneuver there. I was not afraid to clash with Clinton. I was not afraid to clash with the United Nations. I was paying the price anyway, I preferred to receive the value. Value for the price.

In the following segment, Bibi boasts about how he emptied the Oslo Accords of meaning by an interpretation that made a mockery of them:

Woman:  The Oslo Accords are a disaster.

Netanyahu: Yes. You know that and I knew that…The people [nation] has to know…

What were the Oslo Accords? The Oslo Accords, which the Knesset signed, I was asked, before the elections: “Will you act according to them?” and I answered: “yes, subject to mutuality and limiting the retreats.” “But how do you intend to limit the retreats?” “I’ll give such interpretation to the Accords that will make it possible for me to stop this galloping to the ’67 [armistice] lines. How did we do it?

Narrator: The Oslo Accords stated at the time that Israel would gradually hand over territories to the Palestinians in three different pulses, unless the territories in question had settlements or military sites. This is where Netanyahu found a loophole.

Netanyahu: No one said what defined military sites. Defined military sites, I said, were security zones. As far as I’m concerned, the Jordan Valley is a defined military site.

Woman: Right [laughs]…The Beit She’an Valley.

Netanyahu: How can you tell. How can you tell? But then the question came up of just who would define what Defined Military Sites were. I received a letter – to my and to Arafat, at the same time – which said that Israel, and only Israel, would be the one to define what those are, the location of those military sites and their size. Now, they did not want to give me that letter, so I did not give the Hebron Agreement. I stopped the government meeting, I said: “I’m not signing.” Only when the letter came, in the course of the meeting, to my and to Arafat, only then did I sign the Hebron Agreement. Or rather, ratify it, it had already been signed. Why does this matter? Because at that moment I actually stopped the Oslo Accord.

Woman: And despite that, one of our own people, excuse me, who knew it was a swindle, and that we were going to commit suicide with the Oslo Accord, gives them – for example – Hebron…

Netanyahu: Indeed, Hebron hurts. It hurts. It’s the thing that hurts. One of the famous rabbis, whom I very much respect, a rabbi of Eretz Yisrael, he said to me: “What would your father say?”  I went to my father. Do you know a little about my father’s position?

…He’s not exactly a lily-white dove, as they say. So my father heard the question and said: “Tell the rabbi that your grandfather, Rabbi Natan Milikowski, was a smart Jew. Tell him it would be better to give two percent than to give a hundred percent. And that’s the choice here. You gave two percent and in that way you stopped the withdrawal. Instead of a hundred percent.” The trick is not to be there and be broken. The trick is to be there and pay a minimal price.

Here are a few of Levy’s choice characterizations of Bibi’s performance in this video:

…Israel has had many rightist leaders since Menachem Begin…but there has never been one like Netanyahu, who wants to do it by deceit, to mock America, trick the Palestinians and lead us all astray. The man in the video betrays himself in his own words as a con artist, and now he is again prime minister of Israel. Don’t try to claim that he has changed since then. Such a crooked way of thinking does not change over the years.

Forget the Bar-Ilan University speech…this is the real Netanyahu. No more claims that the Palestinians are to blame for the failure of the Oslo Accords. Netanyahu exposed the naked truth to his hosts at Ofra: he destroyed the Oslo accords with his own hands and deeds, and he’s even proud of it. After years in which we were told that the Palestinians are to blame, the truth has emerged from the horse’s mouth.

…The government of Israel is led by a man who…thinks that Washington is in his pocket and that he can pull the wool over its eyes.

It should be noted that Bibi isn’t the only prime minister who boasted of such manipulation of the U.S.  Dov Weisglass, Ariel Sharon’s Mephisto bragged of “putting the peace process in formaldehyde” via the Gaza withdrawal.  He too claimed he had George Bush wrapped around his little finger (though he didn’t say which one).

This seems to be a fashion among right-wing Israel prime ministers.  They come to believe their own press clippings.  But really who is to blame for this but American presidents who allow Israeli leaders to outwit and outmaneuver them?  When has an American president, except perhaps George Bush pere, ever stood up to Israel and won?  And I’m rapidly coming to the conclusion it won’t ever happen with the current president.
