US president, Barack Obama, on Thursday signed a waiver allowing the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) to keep its office in Washington D.C for an additional six months.
The PLO was first allowed to open a mission in the United States in 1994 by the formerUS President, Bill Clinton.
In 1987, the United States passed a law barring the PLO from having an office in the country. Since then, Presidential waivers have been needed every six months to enable it to retain its presence Washington.
On Thursday, President Obama sent the waiver letter to the Secretary of State, Hilary Clinton.
The waiver also allows the United States to send support money to the Palestinian Authority headed by Mahmoud Abbas.
$800 million out of the $83.4 billion supplementalry spending bill sent by Obama to the Congress is meant to support the Palestinian people and boost the Palestinian Authority.
